As the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) issues more and more PhilIDs and ePhilIDs, Filipinos registered to the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) are reaping the benefits of having a valid and sufficient proof of identity in their transactions.

Vilma Ramos shows her PhilID, which allowed her to become a beneficiary of a financial assistance program for farmers.

Vilma Ramos, a farmer from Jose Panganiban in Camarines Norte, was able to use her PhilID to avail cash assistance for small-scale rice growers.

“Noong nalaman ko ang tungkol sa PhilID, nag-register na ako agad,” she said. “Ngayon, nagamit ko ito sa pagkuha ng government benefits gaya ng Rice Farmers Financial Assistance.”

Andrea Imperio from Manila shows her PhilID, which she presents in transactions requiring a valid ID.

Andrea Imperio, a young professional from Paco, was also able to use her PhilID for her personal transactions.

“Nagamit ko siya [the PhilID] recently sa pagpapakabit ng internet [connection] and pag-apply para maka-open ng bank account,” she said. “Nirerekomenda ko sa mga kapwa ko na kumuha ng PhilID bilang valid ID kasi mabilis at madali lang magparehistro. Kapag gagamitin sa pag-apply o kaya sa mga transaksyon, tatanggapin naman nila [sa mga establishment],” she added.

Tricia Mae Bacaricas from Caibiran, Biliran, shows her ePhilID which enabled her to apply for a social protection program.

Just like Vilma and Andrea, Tricia Mae Bacaricas, a housewife from Caibiran, Biliran, was able to benefit from being PhilSys-registered through her ePhilID.

Alvin Miranda from Quezon City shows his ePhilID, which he uses to claim remittances from his mother.

Alvin Miranda, a student from Quezon City, was also able to use his ePhilID for his financial transactions at the remittance center.

“Itong ePhilID na ‘yung naging valid ID ko ngayon,” he said. “Nagagamit ko ito para kunin ang pera na padala ni Mama ko galing Kuwait,” he added, referring to the money his mother—an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW)—regularly sends him for his living and school expenses.

The ePhilID, a proactive strategy by the PSA, allows registered persons to immediately enjoy the benefits of being PhilSys-registered at no cost. Just like the PhilID, it is honored and accepted as a valid proof of identity and age.

“The use cases of PhilID and ePhilID is indicative that PhilSys is helping more and more Filipinos in their day-to-day life, one transaction at a time,” said PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General. “Makakaasa ang publiko na walang-tigil ang PSA sa pagsiguro ng pagtanggap ng PhilID at ePhilID sa mga transaksyon.”

To ensure that more Filipinos can enjoy the benefits of being PhilSys-registered, the PSA, its field offices, and partner agencies continue to work on issuing more PhilIDs and ePhilIDs.

As of 06 October 2023, the total number of PhilIDs delivered is already at 41,594,186, while 42,913,400 ePhilIDs have already been issued—1,299,865 of which were downloaded via mobile device.

Registering for PhilSys remains fast, easy, and convenient. With the full implementation of walk-in registrations, Filipinos can simply head to any PhilSys Registration Center near them, present their supporting documents for validation of demographic information, and have their biometric information captured to register.

In addition, the PSA and its field offices are also conducting mobile registration activities across the country, including far-flung areas. Minors aged 5 and above are also being registered through school-based registration initiatives.

The PSA reminds the public to safekeep the transaction slip given after completing PhilSys registration as this bears the Transaction Reference Number (TRN) required in obtaining an ePhilID.

To check the availability of the ePhilID, registered persons can access https://appt.philsys.gov.ph and set an appointment to claim it at any PhilSys Registration Center. The ePhilID may also be downloaded through a secure link indicated in an official text message from the PSA.
