The award also cites PhilSys as a foundational digital identification system for exemplifying “the best in system infrastructure and implementation of a government passport, identity or other secure identification scheme.”

“We, at the PSA, welcome the recognition and take it as an affirmation of the efforts to establish and implement PhilSys,” said Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General. “Inaanyayahan namin ang ating mga kababayan na mag-register na sa PhilSys at maging bahagi ng Makabagong Pilipinas.”

Established in 2018, PhilSys is the single national identification system for all Filipino citizens and resident aliens.

It aims to provide a valid proof of identity to registered persons, including the PhilSys Number (PSN) or the 12-digit permanent identification number, and the PhilID or the non-transferrable physical ID card.

The valid proof of identity provided by PhilSys is a means of simplifying public and private transactions, and is a social and economic platform that promotes seamless social service delivery and strengthens financial inclusion for both public and private services.

PhilSys is also seen as a driver of digital transformation in the delivery of services and in the transition to a digital economy, including enabling presenceless, paperless, and cashless transactions.

As of 01 December 2023, a total of 82,376,148 Filipinos have successfully registered to PhilSys, while PSNs generated is at 79,635,300.

In addition, a total of 48,468,858 PhilIDs have been dispatched for delivery—of which, 45,173,021 have been delivered.
